Our Volunteer Program offers access to our facility and programs in exchange for volunteering with us. It also offers a wide range of opportunities for learning at all levels, including communication skills, coordination, learning about non-profit organization management, and professional development skills for care providers. Volunteer Members have an opportunity to increase their knowledge on many levels, transferring their new-found skills to other areas of their lives.

Examples of some volunteer opportunities include:
– Tamarack Editorial Board Member
– Set up and take down for workshop and events
– Administrative support, assistance with publications and communications initiatives

– attend workshops free of charge

-are open to being challenged to develop perceptions of equality and community
– receive the Tamarack Newsletters with information about exhibitions, workshops and other events

– receive advance notice of upcoming events and workshops
– have the opportunity to join a committee and participate in the work of the Centre,
Communications, Publications, New Media and Programming Committees

- be part of a space that is friendly, community-oriented, and open

Feminist Newsletter Editorial Board Volunteer

5-15 hrs/month

From the early 1980s to early 2000s, the Terrace Women’s Resource Centre has published a women’s newsletter: The Tamarack. Filled with deeply personal stories, poetry and imagery, as well as updates on our programs and projects, the Tamarack was a free, accessible, and safe space for womyn to express frustrations and celebrate victories. We’re looking for an energetic volunteer to help revive and recreate this respected twice yearly feminist publication. This position can be done virtually. All positions associated with the Tamarack are responsible for gathering and soliciting original content.

Key Goals:

  • Research and continue to learn about feminism and anti-oppression
  • Working closely with the Program Coordinator and Editorial Board, the Newsletter Editorial Board Member would be responsible for gathering and soliciting original content and coordinating all art and imagery in the final publication
  • Work co-operatively with the Editorial Board and Program Coordinator to
  • Submit original imagery to Program Coordinator for use in Tamarack tumblr
  • Organize content and imagery
  • Work with Editorial Board in final touches to newsletter
  • Follow-up and celebrate!

Desirable skills:

  • Computer literate or interest in learning new programs
  • Interest in art and developing others’ interest in art
  • Access to the internet, or ability to organize use of internet at the Centre
  • Organizational ability; publications require a lot of work
  • An eye for spelling, grammar, and fact mistakes; ability to copy-edit
  • Experience with online publication and print publication
  • Open-mindedness towards feminist thought
  • Ability and interest in working cooperatively; learning from others
  • Visual art skills or interest is a bonus
